How to get emollients

Your doctor or pharmacist will talk to you about which type of emollient will work best for your skin condition. Emollients are often used to help manage dry, itchy or scaly skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and ichthyosis.

Emollients can be applied as often as you like to keep the skin well moisturised and in good condition. Ideally, this should be done at least 3 or 4 times a day. Certain activities, such as gardening, can irritate the skin. It may help to apply an emollient before doing these. If you experience any of these symptoms, talk to a GP, nurse or pharmacist. Safety advice when using emollients Fire safety

Zerobase Emollient Cream softens, moisturises and protects the skin, providing symptomatic relief for red, inflamed or dry skin. If you have eczema, the cream can also be applied before a bath to stop the skin drying further. It can be used as an alternative to soap. Adverse reactions: Everyday soaps, shampoos and shower gels usually dry out the skin and can make skin conditions like eczema worse. As an emollient: Children under 1: Seek HCP advice before use. Adults and children: Apply to the affected area of skin as required. As a skin cleanser: Apply to the skin using hands or wash cloth, then rinse off. Date of preparation: Mix a small amount (around teaspoonful) of leave-on emollient or soap substitute in the palm of your hand with a little warm water and spread it over damp or dry skin.
